Update 9/3/10: Wassau is now down to 55 pounds. He is moving so much better now.

Update from his foster Mom 8/7/10: Wassau has lost some weight and is now able to get up and down off the back patio (two stairs) on his own.  He sometimes even tries to trot or walk fast when he is called to come inside.  He still has a lot of weight to lose and very short walks might help him out a lot.  His personality is starting to come out and he is a very happy dog.  He now will bark a little when he wants to have his dinner.  He wags his tail whenever he is spoken to.  He accepts strangers after he decides they are OK.  He adores his foster mom and wants to follow her around everywhere.  He still tires easy and will quickly find a place to lie down and rest.  He gets along well with other dogs in the household and he is being very patient with a three month old puppy who has decided that Wassau is his idol.

WASSAU is an 8 year old, sable and white neutered male. He came to rescue because his owner passed away.

Wassau came to us in horrible condition. His teeth were bad and he lost several of them when he had his dental. Luckily his blood work looked pretty good. His coat was terribly matted and he has a pretty bad skin infection. The worst part is that this poor boy weighs 67 pounds! That is not a typo and no he is not a Collie. This boy is carring around 67 pounds of fat on a body meant to be about 25 pounds. He struggles to get up and can't walk far before he has to stop and rest. It takes all he has, with a running start (as much as he can run) for him to get up the one step he has to go up to get back in the house from the back yard.

In spite of his current health isues Wassau is a very sweet dog. He wags his tail and comes up to people to get attention. He seems to get along fine with other dogs, but we have not had him around cats yet. It is going to take quite awhile to get Wassau down to his proper weight. We anticipate he will stay in his foster home until he loses some weight and can get around better. However we are listing him as available and will work with the right family if they want to take on this challenge and help him become the next biggest loser.
